Calculation Breakdown
How to use the GST calculator
- Choose the mode. Add GST if your price is before tax; Remove GST if the price already includes GST (like an MRP or a bill total).
- Enter the amount. Commas are fine — 1,25,000 works.
- Pick the GST rate. 5%, 18% and 40% are the main slabs from 22 September 2025. Use Special & older rates for 3% gold, 0.25% diamonds, or old 12%/28% invoices, or type a custom rate.
- Select the supply type. Seller and place of supply in the same State/UT → CGST + SGST/UTGST. Different States, imports or SEZ supplies → IGST.
- Optional: open Quantity & Discount for multiple units or a trade discount, and tick round-off for a whole-rupee total.

GST formulas with worked examples
1. Adding GST (exclusive price)
Example: a laptop bag priced ₹10,000 + 18% GST, sold within Maharashtra. GST = 10,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹1,800 (CGST ₹900 + SGST ₹900). Total = ₹11,800.
2. Removing GST (inclusive price)
Example: a bill of ₹5,250 at 5%. Taxable value = 5,250 ÷ 1.05 = ₹5,000; GST = ₹250.
3. Inter-state sale (IGST)
Example: ₹25,000 of services billed from Pune to a client in Bengaluru at 18%. IGST = 25,000 × 18% = ₹4,500; total ₹29,500.
A common mistake is to remove GST by subtracting 18% of the total: 18% of ₹1,180 is ₹212.40, but the GST inside ₹1,180 is only ₹180. Always divide by (1 + rate). All GST formulas →
